CLIO AREA LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES
APRIL 21, 2004
The meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m. by President Mike Zinn. Those present included Mike Zinn, Sandra Vuillemot, Sue Thomas, Carmon Fox, Sue Smith, custodian Brian Vuillemot, library representative Pat Peterson, and Libarian Mary Jean Harrison.
COMMUNICATIONS: None
MINUTES: A motion by S. Thomas, seconded by C. Fox to approve the minutes of March 10, 2004. All yeas.
LIBRARIAN’S REPORT: Mary Jean is leaving her post here and moving to Deluth Georgia. The new librarian will be Andrea from the Johnson Library in Genesee. DVD’s are now available in the library to check out for two days at a time. The toys are back in the children’s room. The outside doors are causing problems again with locking and unlocking. This is the same problem we address every year because of the heat of the sun swelling the aluminum around the lock. Mary Jean has figured out how to work the lock. The office chairs in the library are all beginning to fall apart. The Winecoff Book Funds have been spent and the books have been ordered with mostly Jr. High age books being ordered. The order should be in by the end of June. The library will be updating the computers with software that will allow customers to use their library card number to sign on and it will also let the patron know when their time is up on the computer. The statistics are in for the library use through the first quarter of 2004 and they are up 56%. This is the highest increase in the county. GOOD JOB!
BILLS: A motion by C. Fox, seconded by S. Smith to approve payment of the bills in the amount of $1,913.45. All yeas.
TREASURER’S REPORT: A motion by S. Vuillemot, seconded by C. Fox to approve the Treasurer’s Report of March 31, 2004. All yeas.
CUSTODIAN’S REPORT: The parking lot is need of repair of 3 potholes. M. Zinn has spoken to the City of Clio about the repairs as they were taking care of those problems but because of budget restraints they seem to be reluctant to take care of the problem so M. Zinn spoke with Vienna Township about doing the repairs. Brian needs to order 3 yards of dirt to make repairs to the lawn area from the winter and to cover some cement areas where the old stairs used to be. He will call Charlie Filpansick to order the dirt. Brian needs to order supplies. A patron of the library came in with grease on his shoes and left tracks all through the library. Brian has tried to get it up but it is very heavy grease.
COMMITTEE REPORTS: None
OLD BUSINESS: None
NEW BUSINESS: Jack Tufford has turned in his bid for doing the mowing of the lower lawn area at $65.00 per mow. A motion by S. Thomas, seconded by S. Smith to accept this bid for the mowing. All yeas. Discussion was held concerning purchasing the library a steam cleaner for the carpet. This would mean that Brain could clean the spots in the library without having to wait until the whole carpet needed cleaning to justify the rental of a steam cleaner. A motion by S. Vuillemot, seconded by C. Fox to purchase a steam cleaner. All yeas.
ADJOURNMENT: Meeting was officially adjourned at 6:01 without a motion to do so because S. Smith had to leave.
NEXT MEETING WILL BE HELD AT 5:30 P.M. ON MAY 12, 2004.
Respectfully Submitted,
Sandra Vuillemot
